A 14-year-old boy has been lifted to safety by helicopter after getting stuck in mud in a kayak on the River Medway in Kent.

Thames Coastguard said the teenager had run aground in Hoo Marina at 20:15 BST on Monday.

Three hours later a Sea King helicopter from RAF Wattisham freed him.

The boy was treated for the effects of the cold by paramedics and taken to Medway Maritime Hospital as a precaution.
