Pair bailed over death of boy near Sittingbourne

Friends of a 14-year-old boy killed in a hit-and-run accident while riding his bike lay flowers at the scene in Kent

Two people questioned after a 14-year-old boy out riding his bike was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Kent have been released on bail.

Kyle Coen was hit by a Fiat Bravo near Sittingbourne and the driver sped off after the incident, police said.

Paramedics treated the teenager, but he was pronounced dead at the scene on the A2 London Road on Monday night.

The 27-year-old woman and 23-year-old man will return to a police station in Kent at a later date, officers said.

Kyle Coen, from Sittingbourne, was riding towards Faversham when he was struck from behind. His family has been informed, police said.

'Really upset'

Kyle, who was a student at Sittingbourne Community College, was cycling to his girlfriend Donna Clarke's house when he was hit.

She said she believed she might have seen the car that hit him.

"I feel like I could have run up there and saved him," she said.

"We just saw a car really speed past us really fast."

Kyle's friend, 14-year-old Alex Stock, laid flowers at the scene, and said: "I'm really upset, I can't believe it.

"We had plans to go out today but obviously it can't happen now. I've just been crying since it happened."

Alex's mother, Linda, said the pair were "inseparable" and had spent the day together.

She said it was only by "sheer luck" that her son was not with him when he died.

"I was going out last night so Alex came home early, otherwise they would have still been together," Mrs Stock said.

"Kyle was a good lad, never in trouble. It just isn't fair and I feel so sorry for his family and friends.

"I spoke to Kyle's mum last night. What can you say to them? My heart goes out to them.

"There are no words to describe how they must be feeling."

Police said the grey Fiat Bravo had been recovered near to the scene.

Anyone who saw the incident, which happened shortly after 21:00 BST near Bapchild Cricket Club, is asked to contact police.

The car drove off in the direction of Teynham afterwards.
