Roads to close during major Kent water mains scheme
The next phase of a £1.5m project to upgrade water mains to meet growing demand in west Kent is under way.
South East Water hopes to complete the 6km-long strategic main, linking reservoirs near Sevenoaks, in November.
But the work will involve some lengthy road closures in the coming months to protect residents and contractors.
The new larger main, between reservoirs at Brimstonewell Wood and Point Wood, will help ensure water provision for the area's rising population.Short-term disruption
Graham Webb, of South East Water, said: "During the closures business, resident and pedestrian access will be maintained wherever possible, and the White Rock Inn in Underriver will remain open as usual."
There will also be some short-term disruption in Walderslade, near Chatham, when a separate main is installed in a playing field between Fostington Way and Catkin Close, and in nearby Robin Hood Lane.
South East Water says part of the field will be closed over the school holidays, and the car park and Robin Hood Lane will also be affected for a time.
