Kent farmer plants olive grove due to climate change

A farmer in Kent claims to have planted the county's first olive grove in a bid to capitalise on climate change.

Neil Davy, from Huggit's Farm, in Tenterden, is in the final stage of planting 200 olive trees of several different varieties.

He said English sparkling wines grown in the area had won critical acclaim.

He now hopes the warmer weather and lack of fertile soil on the slopes of his farm will provide perfect conditions for growing olives.
