Ex police officer held over death of wife in Ashford

A 38-year-old former police officer has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of his wife following an assault in Kent.

The assault happened at a hairdressing salon in Ashford High Street at about 09:40 BST.

The woman, who has been named locally as Natalie Esack, was attacked at Esack Hair and Beauty.

Ivan Esack, a former Kent Police officer, was arrested in Ashford at 10:40 BST and remains in custody.

No customers were inside the premises at the time of the attack although another member of staff was present.

Officers were called to the premises by South East Coast Ambulance Service.

A Kent Police spokeswoman said that a post-mortem examination was due to be carried out on the victim on Tuesday to establish an exact cause of death.

The woman's family has been notified, Kent Police said.
