Drugs and CS gas seized at Dover and Channel Tunnel

Three smuggling attempts at the Port of Dover and the Channel Tunnel have been foiled by UK Border Agency officers.

They found 49 CS gas canisters in a van at Dover last Friday, while cocaine and amphetamines worth about £400,000 were found inside a lorry the next day.

Both drivers - one from the Czech Republic and the other from the Netherlands - were arrested and bailed.

On Sunday, 9kg of cannabis was found in a car driven by a man from Poland on the French side of the Channel Tunnel.

The UK Border Agency said he was charged with attempted importation and appeared before magistrates in Folkestone.
