Kent's Hadlow College puts forward free school plan

Plans to open a free school with a rural-focused curriculum have been put forward by a Kent agricultural college.

Hadlow College near Tonbridge said it wanted to open the Rural Community School in September 2013.

A spokesman said it wanted to develop an "outdoor classroom concept" with a more practical approach to learning.

Free schools are funded from the public education budget - but the schools are run independently and have the freedom to create their own curriculum.

The college is holding a public consultation into the proposal.

Parents can find out more at the Grange Moor Hotel in Maidstone at 19:00 GMT on Thursday.

Further meetings are planned for the Langley Hotel in Tonbridge on Tuesday and the Kings Hill Community Centre in West Malling on Wednesday.
