Pupils pay respects to 'The Few' at Kent monument

French group visits the National Memorial to The Few The group laid wreaths and held a moments silence to those that died

Scores of French pupils took part in a memorial service at the Kent monument which honours the 2,927 pilots who flew in the Battle of Britain.

A total of 85 school children from Savigny-sur-Orge, near Paris, attended the ceremony at the National Memorial to The Few site at Capel le Ferne.

They were accompanied by French war veterans, the mayor of Savigny-sur-Orge and members of the town council.

The group laid wreaths and held a silence to honour those who had died.

A spokesman for the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust said it was important all generations visited the monument to recognise the debt they owned to the pilots.
