Vandals damage memorials in a Medway cemetery

Vandals have broken and pushed over private memorials in a Kent cemetery.

The damage in the private Woodlands Cemetery in Gillingham is thought to have taken place between 1000 BST and 1200 BST on Monday.

Paul Edwards of Medway Council said: "Although this is unusual it is obviously very upsetting for anyone affected."

The vandals also destroyed boundary fencing, and caused more than £2,000 worth of damage.

The council said that police had been informed and asked any visitors to the cemetery to report any suspicious behaviour.
