Gillingham man who died after police restraint is named

The IPCC said officers called an ambulance to the scene in Twydall

A man who died after police officers tried to restrain him at his home in Kent has been identified as Colin Holt.

The 52-year-old, who was being held under the Mental Health Act at Medway Maritime Hospital, in Gillingham, was reported missing on 30 August.

Two police officers later found him at his flat in Goudhurst Road, Twydall.

His death is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission, who said he became unwell while officers tried to restrain him.

An IPCC spokesman said an ambulance was called but Mr Holt was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Wednesday proved inconclusive and further tests would be carried out.

Investigators from the police watchdog have been carrying out house-to-house inquiries, examining officers' initial accounts, checking police logs and scrutinising CCTV footage.
