Road cordoned off after Gillingham assault

A road was sealed off by police in Kent as officers carried out an investigation into a serious assault.

Officers said a man was attacked on Balmoral Road, Gillingham, on Saturday.

A Kent Police spokeswoman said the 35-year-old was in a serious condition at the Medway Maritime Hospital and three men were in custody.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old man and two other men, aged 19 and 21, handed themselves into police. Balmoral Road later reopened.

The victim suffered head injuries in the attack and is currently in a critical condition in intensive care.

Police were called to the scene at about 0820 BST. It is thought the assault happened near the junction with Avondale Road.
