Two people arrested after a newborn baby girl was found dead on a cycle path in Hull have been released on bail.

The baby's body was found by a member of the public between Rockford Avenue and Lamorna Avenue on Saturday at about 19:15 BST, Humberside Police said.

A post-mortem examination revealed the baby was still-born.

A man and a woman in their early 20s were bailed while police "consider the most suitable outcome".

The force said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the baby's death.

Det Ch Insp Matthew Baldwin said: "This has been a very complex and sensitive investigation making it important for us to fully consider the circumstances which led to the baby being discarded.

"We are working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service in order to establish the most suitable outcome following our investigation and the two people arrested have been bailed at this time whilst we do so."
