A former Mayor of Cleethorpes and council leader has denied allegations that he performed a sex act in his garden in front of children.

Keith Brookes, 67, of Bolingbroke Road, Cleethorpes, appeared before Grimsby magistrates on Tuesday charged with outraging public decency.

It is alleged he committed a sex act in his garden, in the presence of other people, including children, on 13 July.

He was bailed to appear at Grimsby Crown Court on 6 September.

Mr Brookes, who was leader of the Conservative group on North East Lincolnshire Council, has been suspended from the Conservative Party.
