Vandalism closes £700,000 East Yorkshire playground
A children's playground in an East Yorkshire town has been closed after repeated attacks by vandals.
The £700,000 Millennium Green and Play Park in Withernsea opened three years ago.
The playground is run by a local charity who said they did not have the estimated £5,000 needed to repair the latest damage.
Michelle Gouldesbro, from Withernsea and Holderness Play Action, described the vandalism as "sickening".
She said they were forced to close the park after a child was injured on the vandalised equipment.
She said: "I could have sat down and cried when I saw it last night, not least for the poor young man who got injured.
"We had some children come all the way from Hull to play on the park where their mother used to play.
"We turned them away at the gate.
"They were very polite and very understanding but I shouldn't have to turn them away."
