Humber region drivers warned of icy roads

Motorists have been warned of icy conditions on many routes

Freezing overnight temperatures after Monday's heavy snowfall could mean hazardous conditions on roads in East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of ice for the region for Tuesday.

Humberside Police have advised motorists to be cautious on the roads.

Councils across the region said gritting crews would continue to operate around the clock to try to ensure major routes remained clear.

North East Lincolnshire Council said road surface temperatures were expected to remain below freezing increasing the risk of ice.

BBC Weather forecaster Paul Hudson said the risk of further snow had "fizzled out" and the worst was over.

"The emphasis now changes to widespread ice on untreated surfaces," he said.

PC Barry Gardner, from Humberside Police, said he had seen a number of motorists driving without lights and urged drivers to "leave plenty of room between yourself and the vehicle in front".

Humberside Airport said the weather conditions were affecting flights, and urged passengers to check with airlines before leaving.
