North East Lincolnshire children's centre loses workers

A centre which provides support for children caught up in domestic violence in Grimsby has lost its specialist staff after its funding came to an end.

The Hideout, located in the local women's refuge, provides specially trained staff to work with children whose mothers have left abusive relationships.

The unit received a three-year grant of £105,526 from Children In Need.

The refuge said it would continue the service with existing staff.

Manager Denise Farman said the Hideout was important in helping women with children who came to stay at the refuge.

'Way forward'

She said: "It takes the children out of the situation so that the mum can go through what she needs to go through.

"If that woman's got four kids then there's the first thing that the Hideout is needed for.

"Because she doesn't want to be talking about her whole life experiences around the abuse with her children sat listening."

The centre also runs support sessions with the children to allow them to talk about their experiences.

Ms Farman said: "It's about each child having their own individual plan for the way forward with their feelings and emotions."
