Goole Hinge Centre gets lottery cash to expand services

The grant will be used to employ more staff and expand services in Bridlington

A youth project in East Yorkshire has been awarded more than £400,000 from the lottery.

The Hinge Centre, based in Goole and Bridlington, will use the money to expand its work with young people in East Yorkshire.

The cash comes from the Big Lottery Fund's Reaching Communities programme.

The centre offers training and volunteering opportunities to young people dealing with homelessness, neglect or abuse.

Martin Crossland, manager at the Hinge Centre, said the funding would secure its future for a further four years.

He said: "A lot of young people these days can't cook, can't iron, can't do basic shopping and we want to engage them to build on those skills to increase their chances in years to come.

"We can now employ four new workers, two in each town, to role out these projects on a much grander scale."
