North Lincolnshire towns' power cut after cable theft

Power was cut to hundreds of homes in North Lincolnshire after seven thefts of overhead cabling took place.

Northern Powergrid said about 390 customers were affected in Alkborough, Barton upon Humber, West Halton, Burton upon Stather and Winterton areas.

The company said about 1km of cabling was stolen and estimated the cost of the damage at £13,000.

Humberside Police said it was investigating the incident which took place during the early hours.

North Lincolnshire Council leader Liz Redfern, said: "It's unacceptable and I hope the police catch whoever did this and they are brought to justice. I would urge anyone has any information about this incident to contact the police."
