A total of 235 police officers from Humberside Police will be deployed to help cover the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The daily number of Humberside Police officers on games duty would range from two to a maximum of 123.

They will be based in London and Dorset, venue for the sailing events.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Leaver said he was confident the deployment "will not affect policing in the Humberside Police area".

According to the Association of Chief Police Officers, 12,500 officers will police the Games nationally, with 9,500 in London.

Humberside Police will have one of the longest deployments of any force, with officers on duty for a total of 101 days.

The force said the majority of the officers would be on general patrol duties, but they will also send some officers from the mounted, armed response, dog and other specialist units.

Mr Leaver said changes would be made to ensure there was enough cover in the Humberside area.

He said "We have had to place some restrictions on annual leave, we have reduced the amount of training we will be delivering and we will be making as much use of our Special Constabulary colleagues as possible."

Humberside Police said the cost of providing cover for the seconded officers would be paid for from the Home Office's £600m Olympic security and safety budget.
