Scunthorpe's new leisure centre The Pods has opened, but swimmers will have to wait to use the pool.

The £21m centre, near Ashby Road, is made up of five "pods" and has an unusual eco-friendly design.

The gym, fitness studio, sports hall, cafe and creche at The Pods are now open to the public, and the management said the pool would open "very soon".

Three men were injured in an explosion at the centre last month, which was linked to the pool's filtration system.

John Briggs, the cabinet member responsible for leisure at North Lincolnshire Council, said: "It is a magnificent building and it's so exciting to see it completed.

"We will shortly be opening the pool area and the building will very soon be fully open to the public."

The building has been designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape and includes environmentally-friendly features, such as a bio-mass boiler and recycling facilities.
