A major route into Worcester may be closed until Friday after a water main burst, the county council said.

The A443 Worcester to Tenbury Wells road has been closed at the junction of Hylton Road and Henwick Road, near the University of Worcester.

Severn Trent Water said it had to make a deeper excavation than expected to find the fault.

The company also said shutting off the damaged pipe immediately would have left 2,000 homes without water.
