The Conservatives have lost their majority on Herefordshire Council after two by-elections.

The party lost its Leominster South seat to the Green Party by 384 votes.

Its Ledbury seat was lost by 835 votes to the It's Our County party, which said it was formed out of frustration with existing party politics.

The Conservatives remain the largest party on the authority but are expected after last night's results to enter into talks with other parties later.

The It's Our County party now has 12 places in the 68 seat council chamber, but its leader Mark Hubbard said it would not do a deal with the Conservative group.

The party, which was formed in 2010, is the third largest on the authority after the Conservatives and the Independents.

There has been no comment from the Conservative group.
