Two killed in M42 triple-car crash in Worcestershire

Queues on M42 The Highways Agency said there were delays of up to two hours on the M42 northbound carriageway

A couple have died in a three-car crash that closed the northbound side of the M42, on the border of Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

A man in his 70s and his wife were killed in the accident just before 01:00 BST between junctions 3 and 3a, a police spokesman said.

Another man in his 50s was taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch with chest injuries.

The Highways Agency said the northbound carriageway re-opened at 10:00 BST.

It reported delays of up to two hours at the peak of the traffic earlier, but these were reduced to less than an hour by 10:30 BST as the road re-opened and the volume of traffic eased.

The driver of the third car was uninjured and did not require hospital treatment.
