Worcester Southern Link Road £8m revamp work begins

Roadworks Roadworks on Worcester's ring road are expected to last for a year

Work has started on a one-year revamp of a major link road in Worcester.

More than £8m is being spent to dig up the Ketch roundabout on the A4440 Southern Link Road and then rebuild it almost double in size.

The road will also be widened from the roundabout to the Norton island, and new street lighting will be put in.

Worcestershire County Council said parts of the road would be closed during the works but it would try to keep "disruption to a minimum".

'Clear vision'

Deputy leader Simon Geraghty, said: "With more than 30,000 vehicles using the A4440 each weekday and data showing a worsening situation over the coming years, sitting back and doing nothing is simply not an option.

"We have a clear longer term vision to dual-track the entire length of the route up to the Whittington Roundabout and this important first stage will bring immediate benefits when finished."

The roadworks have been funded through £6m of government money with the council contributing £2m.
