Ex-police officer Alan Saffery from Hereford in court on child sex charges

A former police officer has appeared in court charged with rape and other child sex offences.

Alan Saffery, 60, of Spinney Grove, Hereford, is accused of two offences of raping a girl under the age of 16 in the 1980s.

He is also charged with nine counts of indecently assaulting a girl in the 1970s and 1980s and two counts of gross indecency towards a child.

He was released on conditional bail by Worcester Magistrates' Court.

Mr Saffrey also faces two counts of making indecent images of children.

He is due at Worcester Crown Court on 23 June.
