Ex-Hereford police officer Alan Saffery charged with child sex offences

An ex-police officer has been charged with sex offences against children in Hereford in the 1970s and 1980s.

Alan Saffery, 60, from Hereford, has been charged with two offences of raping a girl under 16 in the 1980s.

He has also been charged with two offences of gross indecency towards a child and nine of indecent assault of a girl in the 1970s and 80s.

Mr Saffery is due at Worcester Magistrates' Court on 7 March.

West Mercia Police said in addition he has been charged with two counts of making indecent images of children after a search warrant was carried out at his home last year.
