Redditch nursery worker arrested

A member of staff at a Redditch nursery has been arrested after police were contacted by a parent.

West Mercia Police said the employee at the Crabbs Cross branch of Bright Kids was held on Tuesday morning and has since been released on bail.

Officers say the inquiry is in its early stages and relates to allegations concerning an isolated incident.

Det Supt Steve Cullen said he would be "speaking further" to the parent and child concerned.

'Supporting police'

Bright Kids nursery has sent a letter to parents and carers with children there, explaining the reasons for the arrest.

The force said the arrest was not linked to a continuing investigation into allegations of sexual abuse at Bright Eyes Nurseries, which has branches at Bromsgrove, Redditch and Droitwich.

Spokeswoman for Bright Kids nursery Tricia Wellings said: "We are fully supportive of the police investigation and we would like to reassure parents that our main concern is for the welfare of all the children in our care and we have strict safeguarding procedures in place.

"The police have said that given the actions that have already been undertaken, that they have no ongoing concerns for the safeguarding of the children and that no children are at risk."
