A new school building will be built in Worcestershire after plans were given the go ahead.

The £5.5m building will replace the current Burlish Park Primary School, in Windermere Way, Stourport which was built in the 1960s.

Construction is set to start next spring with pupils attending from September 2015, the county council said.

It will include two new junior sports pitches and a multi-use games area.

The current school building will remain open throughout the work and pupils will not need to move sites, the spokesman said.

Councillor Rob Adams, planning and regulatory committee chairman, said: "This is a very welcome project not only for the pupils and future students, who will be able to enjoy the benefits of a modern and sustainable new school building, but also for the community.

"It's clear from the plans that the intention is to provide an inspiring learning environment that's a central part of the community."
