Two people have been arrested after a newborn baby was abandoned in Worcester.

The baby - later named Joseph - was left on the doorstep of a childminder's house in the Columbia Drive area of Lower Wick on 18 July.

He was thought to be about 24 hours old when he was found.

A man and a woman, both in their 30s, were held on suspicion of child neglect. The woman is believed to be the baby's mother.

Both have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Joseph is being looked after by foster parents.

Det Insp Neil Austin from West Mercia Police said: "Joseph continues to thrive with the care he is being given."
