Darren Purchase jailed for 20 years for series of sex crimes

Darren Purchase Purchase was told he would have to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life

A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting and raping eight people including a 13-year-old boy.

Darren Purchase, 45, of Hayfield Close in Worcester was found guilty of 15 offences committed over 25 years.

His charges also included indecently assaulting a nine-year-old girl in 1984 and raping a woman in 2009.

Purchase was told by the judge at Worcester Crown Court he must sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.

The court heard Purchase groomed a 13-year-old boy during the 1980s and abused him over a six year period, including raping him.

'Completely indiscriminate'

He was arrested last year after his victim contacted the police, reporting that in addition to being abused Purchase had made him sniff glue, drink heavily and smoke cannabis.

Det Insp Jon Wallis, from West Mercia Police, said: "From this first report, we were quickly able to identify many other victims, some who had tried to bury what happened to them in their past.

"Purchase abused boys, girls and women and seems to have been completely indiscriminate in whom he targeted, except that most of his victims were vulnerable in some way and Purchase ruthlessly took advantage of that.

"I want to thank all those who supported our prosecution, took part in the trial and had the strength to come to court and relive those terrible experiences."

He added: "Their evidence means we could put a stop to Purchase's relentless offending and, I think, stop many others from becoming his victims."
