Burglar jailed after dog hurt in Stoke Prior
A burglar has been jailed for 22 month for a break-in that left a dog blind in one eye.
Daniel Senior, 21, broke into the home in Hanbury Road, Stoke Prior, Worcestershire, last September and stole £225 while the owner was out.
Border collie Kiri was left with serious injuries after the burglary, Worcester Crown Court heard.
Senior, of Greenfields Road, Kingswinford, admitted burglary and possession of cannabis.
Police said the eight-year-old dog was left needing veterinary treatment for an injured eye which "unfortunately could not be saved".
Insp Ed Slough, from West Mercia Police, said it was "a particularly nasty incident".
He added: "The dog is a constant companion to the owner and the incident has left her nervous about going out and leaving the dog alone."
This story was edited on 19th March 2013 to reflect that the dog was injured during the burglary but there is no evidence that Daniel Senior attacked her.
