Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Redditch have arrested four teenagers and a man.

Nigel Shakespear, 50, died after being attacked while walking home from the Kings Arms pub, in the early hours of Sunday.

He was taken to hospital but his life support machine was later switched off.

West Mercia Police said three of those in custody are aged 17, one is 16 and the fifth male is aged 18. They are all local to the Redditch area.

Mr Shakespear and his partner were in Sillins Avenue, Redditch, at about 00:25 GMT on Sunday when he was assaulted and fell to the ground, hitting his head, police said.

He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital and later transferred to Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry before his life support machine was turned off.

Det Insp Adam Hartwright said police were still appealing for witnesses and officers were carrying out house to house inquiries.
