Hagley superfast broadband expansion plan

About 8,000 more homes and businesses in Worcestershire are to get superfast broadband, BT has announced.

Hagley is the latest place to be included in the company's £2.5bn national super-fast fibre broadband programme.

The area will be upgraded to speeds of up to 300 Megabits per second by spring 2014, BT said.

Also included are Ipsley, Kidderminster, Pershore, Redditch, Stourport and St Peter's in Worcester.

Catherine Humphries, clerk to Hagley Parish Council, said local firms and households will be "greatly encouraged" by the announcement in "these tough economic times".

"High-speed communications have never been more vital in order to succeed in an ever more competitive and connected world," she said.

It will take the total number of premises with access to fibre broadband in Worcestershire to more than 175,000, the company said.
