A Ukrainian aerospace firm says it wants to build a components factory in Herefordshire which may create more than 700 jobs.

A final deal involving Market-Mats could be months away, but a company spokesman has said the Ross on Wye area was a good place for production.

On Wednesday a delegation from Ukraine met Communities Secretary Eric Pickles.

An aviation firm from Georgia is also negotiating about a possible factory in Hereford's Rotherwas Enterprise Zone.

'Cargo plane'

Speaking about both proposals, Herefordshire Council cabinet member for enterprise Roger Phillips said: "This about getting perhaps the biggest inward investment Herefordshire's seen for over a generation."

He said the jobs were for "locals and are at various skill levels".

The Get It Group, which brokered the Ross on Wye deal, said there was the potential for a similar-sized factory in the Rotherwas Enterprise Zone.

Managing director of Get It Group (Midlands) Ltd Ray Stone said the aim was to build components in Ross on Wye "for a cargo plane".
