Man charged over Worcester City Guest House fire

A 31-year-old man has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life after a fire at a guest house.

The blaze broke out in a first floor bedroom at City Guest House in Barbourne Road, Worcester, just before 23:30 GMT on Wednesday.

The fire was contained in the bedroom although heavy smoke filled the guest house, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service said.

West Mercia Police said the man was due to appear before magistrates on Friday.

The building and two neighbouring guest houses were evacuated and several residents were moved to alternative accommodation because of the blaze.
