Alexandra Hospital ward evacuated and man arrested after fire

A ward has been evacuated and a man has been arrested after a fire at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Staff alerted West Mercia Police to the blaze in a first-floor ward at 07:11 GMT.

No one was injured, police said, and officers are investigating the cause of the fire along with Herford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

A man was being questioned by police on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

The fire caused smoke damage.
