Hereford fans walk 21 miles for tax-debt club

HUFC fundraising walk The group walked 21 miles from Malvern to Edgar Street in Hereford

A group of Hereford United supporters have walked 21 miles to help raise money for the club, which owes £110,000 in tax payments.

The fans set off from Malvern town centre to walk to the Blue Square Premier club's Edgar Street ground.

One of the organisers, Jon Hale, 39, said they had already raised £6,500 in sponsorship and were hoping that figure would reach £7,000 by Saturday evening.

Former players Gareth Davies and Stewart Phillips also joined the walk.

Mr Hale said: "We've had donations from around the world.

"The chairman has made it very public that we could've been wound up by revenue and customs, so as fans we wanted to do our bit.

"I think it has already highlighted the fact the club is in trouble because of the number of donations we've had."
