Herefordshire Council solar panels 'could save £6m'
Several council buildings in Herefordshire could have solar panels installed on them in order to save up to £6m over the course of 20 years.
The authority has announced plans to spend around £2m on putting PV solar panel on 36 of its buildings.
Councillor Russell B Hamilton said: "We'll be mindful of listed buildings because their appearance is important but we think this is a great deal."
Solar panels were installed on Hereford Crematorium in September.
The crematorium plans are due to save £5,000 a year, the council said.
A spokesperson from the council said a study into the solar panels had looked at 166 buildings, which includes 103 schools.
The plans are part of the authority's carbon management targets of a 30% reduction by 2015.
