Hereford High Town parade marks Paralympian glory

Members of the public were encouraged to meet the county's Paralympians

Paralympic athletes from Herefordshire have taken part in a parade celebrating their achievements.

More than 500 people turned out to meet the athletes and take photos at the event in High Town, Hereford, at noon.

Shooter James Bevis, swimmers Sascha and Nyree Kindred and members of the Hereford-based GB blind football team were among those attending.

Herefordshire Council chairman Olwyn Barnett said: "They're such an example to our youngsters who may be disabled."

Ms Olwyn, who gave an address at the parade, added: "Our athletes have proved you can overcome just about anything."

Promoting the Paralympics

Swimmer Nyree Kindred, 31, won silver in the women's S6 100m backstroke.

She said: "We've taken a break since we finished and the homecoming parade is great for us.

"I've been to four Paralympic Games and London was definitely the biggest - having the home crowd and the support was incredible.

"London has helped us to really promote what the Paralympics is all about and we work hard for what we achieve."
