Drummonds, Worcester - 31.10.2011
Plenty of Halloween fun around town, but I celebrated (is that the right word?) at Drummonds in Worcester where hideous and grotesque mutations mixed with the living dead and sexy devils in red PVC - of course, as the embodiment of evil music reviewers personified, I stuck a couple of devil horns onto my receding pate - and the transformation was complete!
I only caught a couple of numbers from the electro-trance trio Trap Floors comprising Em, Key and Holly - first time I've seen the full line-up since their emergence from the likes of Cobweb Dilemmas and Dirty Oyster Cabaret - and I'm sure that the killer number is just round the corner.
I have to say that two-piece White-Stripes-ish Das Sexy Clap (renamed Dead Sexy Clap for tonight) already have mighty hits in abundance like Push It In Break It Off, Put It Out Yeah and 12 Year Itch. Credit to frontman Chris - it can't have been easy singing with only half a nose after the horrible mutilation he'd obviously suffered earlier and I'm afraid drummer Katy's injuries looked like they'd require a touch more than a dab of Savlon to cure (other ointments are available).
The mad blood-bespattered doctors of Vault Of Eagles had made a convincing case for retaining the NHS in its present form as they seemed to favour leeches as the cure for most ills - but possibly the Kidderminster rockers are better on the stage as Mari, Hetty and Scott celebrated their upcoming Marshall Amps talent search final appearance in Milton Keynes with a cracking rendition of Taken, Bleed and their trademark cover of In A Broken Dream - yes I'm always saying 'another outfit to watch out for' but stick around and watch these Eagles fly!
