BBC Hereford & Worcester is celebrating people who have recently become involved in sport as it launches The Newcomer of the Year Award.

The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire Newcomer of the Year Award, supported by BBC Hereford & Worcester, aims to recognise the achievement of a club or individual within the first year of their chosen sport.

They should have made an outstanding and inspirational contribution, above and beyond that normally expected of a first-year athlete, official, coach or volunteer.

People can nominate anyone who has made a great impact on their sports club or within their local community.

Maybe they increased participation in a sport. They could have encouraged people from groups who sometimes do not participate in sport.

We want to celebrate people and clubs who have excelled over the past 12 months.

Those nominating could consider what innovative ideas the people and clubs might have used to develop or encourage sport within the community and what makes this club or individual an inspiration to others.

The winner will be presented with their award at the The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Awards at Sixways Stadium, Worcester, on 14 November and will join other winners from around the West Midlands at the BBC's annual Unsung Hero Awards.
