Vehicle leaking gas at hospital car park

A hospital car park was sealed off and nearby residents asked to stay indoors due to a gas leak.

A Saab in the car park of Ross Community Hospital in Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire was leaking LPG, West Mercia Police said.

Appointments were returning to normal after initial reports from police of an evacuation proved to be incorrect.

People living in Copse Street, Cross Street and the Old Gloucester Road were being asked to keep windows closed.

The car's fuel tank was isolated at about 1345 BST and a gas monitor was used to ensure the surrounding area was safe, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said.

All cordons have now been removed and the car handed back to its owner with the condition that it must not be driven until fully checked by an engineer, the spokesman added.
