Two acres of Blue Haze landfill site catches fire

Firefighters have been tackling a fire that broke out at a landfill waste site in Hampshire.

Crews from Hampshire and Dorset were called to the Blue Haze site on Verwood Road near Ringwood at 03:30 BST.

They said smoke from the fire was "visible in the local area" but was "not believed to present any threat to health".

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said the cause of the fire was "not yet known".

He said the fire started in an area of "non-hazardous waste" at the site operated by Veolia Environmental Services.

He added: "Crews have worked with the site operator to create breaks in the material and prevent any further spread".
