St Cross Grange care home not meeting CQC standards

Enforcement action has been taken against a care home in Hampshire after it failed to meet required standards.

The St Cross Grange care home in Winchester was given warning notices by the Care Quality Commission for five out of eight "essential standards".

It is one of 46 care providers, from more than 1,500 in England, currently subject to enforcement action.

The care home's operator, Greensleeves Homes Trust, said it took the points raised "extremely seriously".

Morale 'generally poor'

Areas where enforcement action were taken at the home include the care and welfare of people who use services, safeguarding people from abuse and management of medicines.

In the other three areas the home was told it needed to improve.

The report said on one occasion there was no record on file of a criminal check being carried out on a staff member, who had just one reference from a colleague and friend.

There had also been four managers at the home in the past year and morale was "generally poor".

In response, Greensleeves Homes Trust said the other 16 of its 17 homes were meeting CQC standards.

The trust said it had appointed a new and experienced home manager and would provide support to the home through its head office operations team.
