A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a 70-year-old man who was found stabbed in the street.

John Willdig, of Nelson Road, in Southampton, was pronounced dead at Southampton General Hospital after an "incident" in Morris Road, on Monday.

Paul Humphries, 35, from Morris Road, appeared before magistrates earlier and was remanded in custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Friday.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Willdig died from multiple stab wounds.

A 69-year-old woman arrested in connection with the death remains on police bail.

Two men, aged 43 and 53, also arrested, have been released without charge.
