A 61-year-old pedestrian who died when he was hit by a car near Southampton has been named.

Patrick Duffy, from Southampton Road, Bartley, was struck by the car while crossing Ringwood Road at Netley Marsh, near Totton, on Sunday.

His family said he was a "gentle giant with a big heart" and a "loving husband, father, brother and son".

The driver of the car was not injured, Hampshire Police said.

A family statement, written by his daughter, added: "Words cannot describe how devastated we all are.... he was very well known and great friend to many.

"We will miss him so much and he will be in our hearts forever."

Officers appealed for anyone who saw the crash, involving a Ford Focus at about 22:30 BST, to contact them.
