Southampton churchyard sex attack victim 'robbed'

A man who was sexually assaulted in a Southampton churchyard may have been robbed around the time of the attack, police have said.

The assault in St Mary's churchyard, off St Mary's Street, happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 19-year-old victim is also believed to have been robbed by a man while taking cash out of the machine at Tesco Express nearby.

Police said they do not know whether the two incidents are linked.

Detectives said they were investigating CCTV images.

Det Insp Dave Jackson said he wanted to hear from anyone who was in the St Mary's Street area at about 03:00 GMT and may have seen an altercation near the cash machine.

He said he also wanted to talk to anyone who had seen a group of men in the churchyard between 02:45 and 03:30 who may have "vital information".
