Woman dies in crash with bin lorry in Romsey

A woman has died in a crash between her car and a refuse lorry in Romsey.

The collision happened on Yokesford Hill, between Bunny Lane and Jinny Lane, at about 10:00 GMT where traffic was being diverted due to flooding.

The woman, who was in her 70s and driving a blue Vauxhall, died at the scene. No-one else was injured.

The road was closed for more than five hours while officers investigated how the crash happened. Hampshire Police has appealed for witnesses.

Sgt Glen Barham said: "I'm aware that this road was part of a diversion route and that there was no suitable alternative for traffic to pass through due to flooding.

"I am very grateful for people's patience and understanding whilst we were on scene investigating this tragic incident."
