Ex-councillor David Whittaker jailed for child sex crimes

A former Isle of Wight Tory councillor has been jailed for six years for sex offences against children.

David Whittaker, 73, of Redstart Close, Newport, was found guilty of six charges in a retrial after a previous jury failed to reach a verdict.

The charges include sexual activity with a child and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of children.

Whittaker, who denied all the charges, will be placed on the sex offenders register for life.
