Unconscious woman pulled from Southampton flat fire

An unconscious woman has been pulled from a flat fire during what firefighters have described as a "dramatic rescue" in Southampton.

Fourteen firefighters tackled the blaze at Landguard Road in Shirley, which started at about 19:30 GMT on Friday.

The woman, believed to be in her early 40s, was not breathing when she was found and was resuscitated at the scene.

She was later taken to hospital where she spent the night in intensive care.

Fire investigators are expected to return to the property later to determine the cause of the blaze, which is not thought to be suspicious.
